1 mile south west of village is a 16th century house which is timber frames and plaster construction.

Stows Farmhouse

A 15th century timber framed house which has been dated as early as 1443.

Cap and Feather Public House


The Cap and Feathers Public House is a large Essex Weather board building in the centre of the village.

 

St Nicholas Church

Parts of the church are 13th and 14th century with the south aisle re built in 1866. The south walls are 6 feet thick.
The oldest brass is dated 1584 dedicated to Edward Wiot.

The village pump is the oldest in the area predating the normal cast iron pump.

Tillingham Forge Antiques
An interesting antique shop to visit - Displayed are a large private collection of chamber pots.

 

Bradwell Brook Nature Reserve
The reserve is about 10 acres in size in a T shape. It consists of rough grassland and a lush marsh area with Cricket bat willows, a brook and a conifer plantation. The reserve is noted for its butterflies, moths ands insects . Details from the warden at 01621 776341
 

Peculiar Peoples Chapel


The chapel was built in South Street, Tillingham during 1858.
Peculiar people were Wesleyan Christians who took their name from the book of Deutronomy. They were describes as reliable and honest , sober in habit and neat in dress.
Tillingham Chapel is the last remaining Chapel although at one time they were common in South Essex .
A Peculiar Peoples Chapel has been converted to a house in Steeple.
