VILLAGE INDEX

St Leonard's Church

The church dates from the 15th century although little of the original church remains.
Extensive renovations were carried out between 1750 and 1819 which have left a church with an unusually wide nave.
Several brasses are to be found in the chancel floor including hat of a man and his wife dated 1560 and J King dated 1634.
The church is best known for its connection with Nelson. Rev Scott was Nelsons captain at the time of the Battle of Trafalgar. After the death of Nelson Rev Scot became the curate at Burnham and then rector of Southminster . He brought with him a chart table a bureau a mirror and a fireplace which were all from the Victory. These items are still displayed in St Leonard's
