The first church in the area was St Peter’s Chapel which St Cedd erected at Bradwell juxta Mer.

Since that date religion has played an important role with a Church of England Parish Church in every village. A religious revival around the 1900’s saw a number of non conformist chapels springing up to cope with the demand.
